Our History
Atlanta Congregational United Church of Christ celebrated its 120th anniversary in August 2016. The church traces its roots to 1896, when Congregationalists began to organize churches in the northern part of Michigan. Ground was broken for a new church building in 1953, and In 1955, the first section for the east wing was added for Sunday school rooms, bathrooms and the bell tower. An electric organ was purchased and dedicated on April 14, 1957. The steeple was installed in 1964. A major event in the life of the church occurred in 1961, when the membership voted to become affiliated with the United Church of Christ, and our belief that everyone is welcome here, continues today.
Our Mission
The mission of this church shall be to worship God, to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to celebrate the sacraments; to realize Christian fellowship and unity within the church and the Church universal; to render loving service toward humankind; and to strive for righteousness, justice, and peace.
"No matter who you are or where you are on life's journey, you are welcome here"
